Preserving an Automotive Icon
Some cars are more than machines—they become part of automotive history. The Ferrari 308 GTSi is undoubtedly one of those icons. Immortalised by its timeless Pininfarina design and made famous worldwide through the television series Magnum P.I., it remains one of Ferrari's most recognisable sports cars.
When the opportunity arose to acquire this American-specification Ferrari 308 GTSi, Stefan Ramaekers and his project partner saw far more than a classic sports car. They saw the opportunity to restore a true icon while preserving its originality, character and driving experience.
Bringing an Icon Back to Life
Although the vehicle had been well cared for throughout its life, time had inevitably left its mark.
Over the course of approximately seven months, the Ferrari underwent an extensive restoration. Areas affected by corrosion, particularly around the windscreen frame and door sills, were carefully repaired following water ingress. New glazing was installed, while the interior was meticulously refreshed, inspired by the legendary specification seen in Magnum P.I..
Every stage of the restoration was carried out with one objective in mind: to respect Ferrari's original craftsmanship while ensuring the vehicle could continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.
Engineering with Respect for Originality
A restoration is not about replacing parts unnecessarily—it is about understanding how the vehicle was engineered and making the right technical decisions.
This particular Ferrari is equipped with the Bosch fuel injection system, often misunderstood compared to the earlier carburetted versions. Rather than replacing it, Stefan chose to preserve and optimise the original technology, recognising its reliability and drivability when correctly maintained and calibrated. The result is a classic Ferrari that remains true to its heritage while delivering dependable performance.
Passion Beyond Performance
For Stefan, this project represented far more than restoring an exotic sports car.
It reflects a philosophy that every classic vehicle deserves to be preserved with respect for its engineering, history and identity. Whether working on a modern electric vehicle, an expedition build or an Italian thoroughbred, the same principles apply: technical expertise, attention to detail and uncompromising craftsmanship.
A Timeless Ferrari
Today, the Ferrari 308 GTSi stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of analogue sports cars. Its unmistakable V8 soundtrack, elegant proportions and engaging driving experience continue to captivate enthusiasts around the world.
Projects like this demonstrate that true automotive craftsmanship is not only about repairing vehicles—it is about preserving automotive heritage for future generations.
